Our Dress Making Process
Sustainable Dressmaking and Women's Artistry
Miss Ayana Rose is a small business that is proudly 100% run by females. Our artisans, both in Sri Lanka and Melbourne, embody years of experience and skills that are truly exceptional. These female dressmakers carry many years of experience and hand-sew every handmade dress with meticulous care and attention to detail. They understand the intricate art of smocking and embroidery, and they bring patience and dedication to every garment they create.
We ensure our artisans are fairly compensated, championing female autonomy and empowerment. We are grateful to provide a steady income stream for our skilled artisans, especially considering that many of them are older females who have left the workforce but still possess invaluable knowledge, skill, experience, and reliability - qualities we deeply value at Miss Ayana Rose.
Quality is paramount at Miss Ayana. We believe that each piece should be cherished for its unique beauty and the beautiful imperfections that make it one of a kind. All our dresses are meticulously handcrafted in limited numbers. Our commitment to social responsibility is reflected in the time and care invested in each dress, as well as our price point. This reflects the social responsibility we uphold and the thoughtful journey to creating a quality garment that will wow you from the moment it arrives on your doorstep.
In our pursuit of sustainability, we minimize waste by producing in small quantities and utilizing every measure of fabric. Our production process virtually eliminates waste, aligning with our values of environmental stewardship. Encouraging customers to choose larger sizes for extended wear ensures these heirlooms are cherished for years to come.
Collaborating closely with two small ateliers - one in Colombo, Sri Lanka, with over 30 years of operation, and one in Melbourne, Victoria, established in late 2020 - brings our designs to life. This partnership fosters a familial atmosphere, rooted in the values of passing on skills, cultural knowledge, and livelihood. We cherish the intergenerational bonds between women, the spirit of entrepreneurship, and the support of women supporting women within the business community. At Miss Ayana Rose, we are dedicated to celebrating and empowering women every step of the way.
